Ritual efficacy · supernatural beliefs · uncertainty
Researcher working on supernatural beliefs, ritual efficacy, magic, religious identity, conspiracy beliefs, pattern perception and judgement under uncertainty.
Silvia’s work anchors the cognitive-science-of-religion part of XPhiRel: how people judge whether rituals work, how group membership changes those judgments, and how supernatural causality is embedded in social identity.
Overview
Her broader publication record also includes work on affective displays, pattern perception, statistics, human-computer interaction and modelling of human judgement. Those methods connect naturally with the study of religious cognition and supernatural beliefs.
